The bear was almost extinct in Sweden at the beginning on the 1900s, but was then protected and has today recovered to a strong and stable Swedish population of almost 3000 animals. Only some limited and highly regulated hunt is allowed to protect sheep and reindeer.
Bear meat is very rare and is thus most exclusive meat we offer at Swedish Wild. It has the strongest "wild" taste of all game meat.
The bear is a real omnivore and the meat depends a lot on what the bear has eaten during the year. It is said that bear meat tastes best when they have eaten lots of berries and is therefore best during a good blueberry year.
A fully grown male Swedish brown bear can reach almost 3 meters in length and can weigh over 300 kg.
