reindeer
Reindeer move in packs over large areas in northern Sweden. They live both in the forest and in the mountains and feed mostly on lichens, grasses, herbs and mushrooms. Reindeer meat is very tender and rich in minerals. Reindeer fillet is among the finest meat you can get.
There are about 260,000 reindeer in Sweden. Reindeer husbandry is practised by the Sami in much the same way as it has been since the 18th century and is not just a profession, but as much a way of life.
Reindeer are the only deer where both males and females have antlers.
Reindeer slaughter: September to April
