Reindeer
The reindeer moves in often large herds covering fasts areas in Northern Scandinavia. They live both in the forest and on the mountains and feed mostly on lichen, grass, herbs and mushroom. Reindeer meat is very tender and rich in minerals. Reindeer fillet is among the finest meat you can find anywhere in the world.
There are around 260 000 reindeer in Sweden. Reindeer herding is done by the Sami people in almost the same way as they have been doing for the past 300 years. It is not only an occupation but rather a way of life and plays a very large part of the Sami tradition and culture.
